The main herb for pain in this formula is Corydalis Rhizome, which is an effective, safe, and non-addictive herb. Corydalis promotes blood circulation and invigorates Qi making it an important herb for any kind of pain. The combined alkaloid constituents are about 40% as effective as morphine. This formula clears wind, promotes the movement of Qi,  and blood stagnation.

Organic Motherwort (Yi Mu Cao)

There are many varieties of motherwort that grow throughout the world. In Chinese Medicine motherwort’s action is on the pericardium and liver meridians. In Chinese medicine soothing and cooling the liver meridian which is very sensitive to stress can help quell a headache. Motherwort is known to be bitter, pungent and cold in nature. It promotes circulation and can help with conditions such as menstrual and reproductive problems. It eases stress and anxiety and can help regulate high blood pressure or other heart problems especially those worse with stress.

Organic Abolone Shell (Shi Jue Ming)

Abalone is a type of mollusk that grows most prolifically in the waters around California.  Abalone shell helps to pacify and cool heat in the liver meridian. Heat in the liver meridian can be underlying conditions such as chronic and acute headaches, insomnia,  and irritability. Ablone shell is rich in nutrients: calcium, magnesium, iron, and silicon. These minerals help sooth stress on the nervous system.

Organic Skullcap (Huang Qin)

Also known as Baikal Skullcap, it is one of the oldest herbs in recorded history by the Chinese with records dating back to the 2nd century AD. It has anti-inflammatory qualities and helps relax muscles. It has spicy, cold and bitter taste. Like other herbs that are cold and bitter in Chinese medicine, skullcap clears heat in the body.

Organic Ligusticum Root (Chuan Xiong)

Ligusticum or Chinese Lovage, grows widely all over China and Korea. The root and rhizome are used in herbal preparations and even sometimes added to cosmetics and beverages to enhance flavor and scent. Ligusticum helps move blood and qi, expel wind from the body to decrease pain. In Chinese medicine often pain indicates a level of stagnation; Blood flow is not optimum, perhaps because of an old injury, aging or sluggish circulation and lymph flow. It helps remove this blockage to heal injured tissues. It is also used to reduce pain from dysmenorrhea, and headaches.

Organic Vaccaria Seed (Wang Bu Liu Xing)

Vaccaria seeds can be used externally and internally. Externally they are applied to the skin under a small square of tape to stimulate acupuncture points in the ear. They are known as “ear seeds.” Typically they are worn for 3-5 days. Internally vaccaria seeds are helpful for moving and invigorating the blood. Many pain conditions such as headaches respond well. It is also used for regulating and promoting menstruation because of its effect on the blood in Chinese medicine.

Organic Vitex Seed (Man Jing Zi)

The Vitex tree grows throughout the  Mediterranean central Asia. The Vitex tree produces small berries also known as Chaste tree berries. These berries have a spicy peppery taste. Vitex works mostly on the hormonal system by stimulating the pituitary gland to secrete more progesterone and prolactin. It can help regulate the female menstrual cycle and reduce PMS symptoms including headache.

Organic Chysanthemum Flowers (Ju Hua)

There are 200 species of honeysuckle that grow worldwide. It is the Japanese honeysuckle that is used in Chinese medicine. It is the flower buds that are gathered in the early summer and then shade dried. Honeysuckle is used to remove toxic heat from the body and to treat conditions such as fevers, heat rash, painful sores and swellings, ulcerations, and skin infections.

Organic Gambir Vine (Gou Teng)

It is the twigs with hooks from that Gambir vine that are used medicinally. This herb is also known as Cat’s Claw which is risen in popularity dramatically in recent years. In TCM it is sweet, bitter and slightly cold. Its action on the pericardium and liver meridians is primarily to clear away heat and wind from the body. Excess wind and heat can sometimes produce blurry vision, tremors, dizziness and headache. Gambir vine works to reduce these symptoms.

Organic Angelica Root (Bai Zhi)

Radix Angelicae Sinensis, Angelica, has a special affinity for female gynecological disorders. It is known to help balance hormone levels and provides supplemental estrogen. Angelica relaxes smooth muscle tissue in the body and increases circulation. For this reason, it is helpful in the treatment of high blood pressure, angina and irregular heartbeat. In Chinese medicine terminology, it enriches and moves blood, it is very good at reducing pain anywhere in the body. Angelica is frequently used in Chinese cooking.

Organic Notopterygium Root (Qiang Huo)

Qiang Huo is a relative of the angelica species. Its name refers to the Qiang Zhong area in China where is grows abundantly. Its flavor is pungent, bitter and warm. It treats a variety of conditions such as conjunctivitis, fevers, colds and headaches.

Organic Siler Root (Fang Feng)

Siler Root grows mostly in Mongolia and Jilin regions of China. It name means “guard against wind.” It is effective in treating joint pain especially cases of rheumatoid and osteoarthritis. It will reduced pain and inflammation associated with these disorders. In Chinese medicine spasms, tremors, seizures and stroke are due to excess wind in the body. Siler root is a well known herb for treating muscular spasms.

Organic Bupleurum (Chai Hu)

Bupleurum is widely used in Chinese medicine to assist with the proper movement of Qi in the body. It helps those who experience stress to “go with the flow.” It’s most dramatic effect is on the liver and detoxification. There is evidence that it helps regulate liver enzymes, blood lipids and mood and immunity.

How do I know that the herbs in this formula are organic?

We strive to use 100% USDA organic ingredients whenever possible. Some ingredients in Chinese herbalism are minerals, as opposed to vegetable, and therefore can not be certified organic by USDA. For our international customers, we have attained 100% BCS Oko-Garantie. This is a standard organic certification for the European Union. Its standards meet or exceed USDA certification requirements and certify for mineral ingredients.

Are there fillers in your formulas?

IAOM uses NO FILLERS, NONE. The ingredients listed on our label are the only ingredients in our bottle. Think this is common practice in the herbal industry? Think again.  

As the supplement industry is largely self regulated in the US, there is little to no regulation on how much actual herb is involved in an herbal supplement. Corn, wheat, rice, maltodextrin are all frequently used. Not only do these added ingredients adulterate the efficacy of the formula, but they are a source of hidden allergens in herbs.

How do we know that your herbs are non-toxic?

All of our herbs are grown in China. Whenever ingredients are imported from China, the US FDA requires they are proven for “safety”. The following methods of cleaning are acceptable, according to the FDA, for importation: radiation, sterilization, a chemical wash, sulfurization or ultraviolet rays. That’s right. If you are using Chinese herbs, they have previously gone through one of these processes in order to have cleared customs in the US. The herbs we use in our formulas were treated with UV rays, by far the safest way to ensure their efficacy.
